I Wonder 05:02
I wonder what the blind man will say about the day – The war he’s fought for so long, has up and gone away. At last he’ll see the city, and his darkness will be light – And he’ll find the road he walked is solid gold tonight! Will he say – “Thank You, Jesus, for allowing me – To see my first light, as Your Glory shines on me – For streets like gold, the crystal sea, and angels all surrounding me! Thank You, Lord – thank You, Lord! I can finally see – I can finally see!” And what about the deaf man, who’s ears have never heard – Laughter, or the raging sea, or the singing of a bird? He’s never heard a baby cry, or sounds of harmony – But when he gets to heaven, he’ll hear songs of victory! Will he say, “Thank You, Jesus, for allowing me – To hear my first angel-band, in the home prepared for me – To hear Your Voice like a symphony, and choirs singing, ‘Holy is He’! Thank You, Lord – thank You, Lord! I hear You welcome me – I hear You welcome me!” Then I think about the lame man, and how he never knew – How it felt to walk the seashore, or wear out a pair of shoes. He never, ever rode a bike, or to the music danced – But he’ll leap for joy when he receives his great inheritance! Will he say, “Thank You, Jesus, for allowing me – To take my first steps, in this place made just for me! You’ve given me mobility to dance before You endlessly! Thank You, Lord – thank You, Lord! I am finally free! I am finally free!” But I don’t need to wonder, ‘cause I have been all three – Blind, and deaf, and lame – so I know just what I’ll say – I’ll say, thank You Jesus, for always loving me! To the truth I once was blind, but now I can see – ‘Cause I can hear You easily, to walk with You eternally! Thank You, Lord – thank You, Lord! You’re everything to me! You’re everything to me!

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a fore-taste of glory divine! Heir of salvation; purchase of God; Born of His Spirit; washed in his blood. Chorus This is my story; this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long! This is my story; this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long! Perfect submission; perfect delight! Visions of rapture, now burst on my sight! Angels descending, bring from above, Echoes of mercy; whispers of Love. ~~~Chorus~~~ Perfect submission; all is at rest. I, in my Savior, am happy and blessed, Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His Love. ~~~Chorus~~~

I come to the garden alone, While the dew is still on the roses; And the voice I hear, falling on my ear, The Son of God discloses. Chorus And He walks with me; and He talks with me; And He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share, as we tarry there, None other has ever known. He speaks, and the sound of His voice, Is so sweet, the birds hush their singing. And the melody that He gave to me, Within my heart is ringing. ~~~Chorus~~~ I’d stay in the garden with Him, Though the night around me be falling. But He bids me go, through the voice of woe. His voice to me is calling. ~~~Chorus~~~

Brightly beams our Father’s mercy, From His lighthouse evermore. But to us He gives the keeping, Of the lights along the shore. Chorus Let the lower lights be burning! Send a gleam across the wave! Some poor fainting, struggling seaman, You may rescue, you may save. ~~~Chorus~~~ Dark, the night of sin has settled; Loud, the angry billows roar. Eager eyes are watching, longing For the lights along the shore. ~~~Chorus~~~ Trim your feeble lamp, my brother; Some poor sailor tempest tossed, Trying now, to make the harbor, In the darkness, may be lost. ~~~Chorus~~~
5.
I’m pressing on, the upward way, New heights I’m gaining every day; Still praying, as I’m onward bound, “Lord, plant my feet on higher ground”. Chorus Lord, lift me up, and let me stand By faith, on heaven’s table land; A higher plane, than I have found – Lord, plant my feet on higher ground! My heart has no desire to stay, Where doubts arise, and fears dismay. Though some may dwell where these abound, My prayer, my aim is higher ground. ~~~ Chorus ~~~ I want to live above the world, Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled. For faith has caught the joyful sound, The song of saints, on higher ground. ~~~ Chorus ~~~ I want to scale the utmost height, And catch a gleam of glory bright. But still I’ll pray, ‘till heaven I’ve found, “Lord, lead me on to higher ground”! ~~~ Chorus ~~~
6.
Fire’s still hot, and ice is still cold – Babys are young, but the earth is still old. That way is left, but this is still right – People want peace, but war’s still a fight. Chorus And just like before, He still is today – The same in every way. We are the ones who change – But Jesus is always the same. Sin is still wrong, ‘cause God is still right – Wicked is black, but purity’s white. Death can be dark, but there’s Life in the Light – ‘Cause light is still day, but dark is the night. ~~~Chorus~~~ This Way is up, but that way’s still down – A house in the country can’t be in town. Enter to come in, and leave to go out – There’s strength in our Faith, but fear is still doubt. ~~~Chorus~~~

‘Twas the Lord of hosts that led us out of Egypt’s sand, And He led us through the Red Sea by His mighty Hand. Never halting in the wilderness, but His command Gave assurance we were able to possess the land. Chorus We are able to go up and take the country, And possess the land, from Jordan to the sea! And though giants, tall, be there our way to hinder; God will surely give the victory! When the spies brought back the message, this is what they said: “Against giants and walled cities, we cannot be led”. But a Caleb, and a Joshua said, “they’ll be as bread; We are able to go up, possess the land ahead”! ~~~Chorus~~~ When we crossed the river Jordan, in the land we found, Wine and oil, and milk and honey, richest fruits abound. Sparkling fountains, and the showers came upon the ground. We were able, hallelujah, let God’s praise resound! ~~~Chorus~~~ There’s no thirsting for old Egypt, since we’re in this way, And we care not what the critics, or the ten spies say. For the land abounds in plenty, and were here to stay! Won’t you come and join us, brother, enter in today? ~~~Chorus~~~
8.
A wonderful Savior, is Jesus my Lord – A wonderful Savior to me. He hideth my soul in the cleft of the Rock – Where rivers of pleasure, I see. Chorus He hideth my soul in the cleft of the Rock That shadows a dry thirsty land. He hideth my life in the depths of His Love, And covers me there with His Hand – And covers me there with His Hand. A wonderful Savior, is Jesus my Lord – He taketh my burden away. He holdeth me up, and I shall not be moved. He giveth me strength as my day. ~~~Chorus~~~ With numberless blessings, each moment He crowns. And filled with His fullness divine – I sing in my rapture, “O, glory to God For such a Redeemer as mine!” ~~~Chorus~~~ When clothed in His brightness, transported, I rise To meet Him in clouds of the sky! His perfect salvation – His wonderful Love, I’ll shout with the millions on high!

Jesus Saves 03:50
We have heard the joyful sound – Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Spread the tidings all around – Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Bear the news to every land; climb the steeps, and cross the waves. Onward! ‘tis our Lord’s command – Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Waft it on the rolling tide – Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Tell to sinners far and wide – Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Sing, ye islands of the sea! Echo back, ye ocean caves! Earth shall keep her jubilee – Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Sing above the battle strife – Jesus saves! Jesus saves! By His death, and endless life – Jesus saves! Jesus Saves! Sing it softly through the gloom, when the heart for mercy craves. Sing in triumph o’er the tomb – Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Give the winds a mighty voice – Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Let the nations now rejoice – Jesus saves! Jesus saves! Shout salvation, full and free, highest hills and deepest caves! This – our song of victory – Jesus saves! Jesus saves!

Once my soul was astray from the heavenly way, And was wretched, and vile as could be; But my Savior above, gave me peace, joy and love, When He reached down His hand for me – for me. Chorus When He reached down His hand for me – When He reached down His hand for me – I was lost and undone, without God or His Son, When He reached down His hand for me – for me. I was nearing despair, when He came to me there, And He showed me that I could be free. Then He lifted my feet, gave me glory complete, When He reached down His hand for me – for me. ~~~Chorus~~~ How my heart doth rejoice, since I made Him my choice. From the tempest, to Him, now I flee. Now I lean on His arm, I’m secure from all harm, Since He reached down His hand for me – for me. ~~~Chorus~~~ Since the Lord gave me peace, heavenly joys never cease. Lord, I give all my life unto Thee. Guide my feet, hold my hand, grant with Thee I might stand; For You reached down Your hand for me – for me. ~~~Chorus~~~

I pray that the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, The Father of Glory, may give to us; may give to us; That He may give to us, the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, In the knowledge of Him – The eyes of our understanding being enlightened, That we may know what is the hope of His calling; hope of His calling; That we may know that hope; and what are the riches of the glory Of His inheritance, in the saints – And what is the exceeding greatness of His power, Toward us who believe, according to the working; according to the working Of His mighty power, which He worked in Christ, When He raised Him from the dead, and seated Him at His right hand – At His right hand, in the heavenly places, far above all principality, And power, and might, and dominion; might and dominion, He’s far above all powers and every name that is named, Not only in this age, but also in that which is to come. For this reason, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, From Whom the whole family; from Whom the whole family, In heaven, and earth is named; that He would grant us, According to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might - Through His Spirit, in the inner man, that Christ may dwell In our hearts, through faith, that we being rooted; that we being rooted; Rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints, What is the width, and length, and depth, and height – To know the Love of Christ, which passes knowledge, That we may be filled; that we may be filled; that we may be filled; Filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able To do exceedingly abundantly, above all that we ask, or think – According to the power that works in us, To Him be glory in the church; to Him be glory; to Him be glory; To Him be glory in the church, by Christ Jesus, To all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

about

In 2009 - 2010 I lived in an old house that was built in 1885, on North 7th Street in Goshen, Indiana. I made an upstairs office/studio, and began my recording career in that house.
I moved out of that house in October of 2010, and so I named this - my second album, "Songs From 7th Street" in memory of it. The cover art reflects closure, and the end of that part of my journey. All of the songs were recorded in that house.
It has a much richer sound than "Up From the Roots" (I was learning my way through mixing & mastering), and there's more instrumentation.
It continues in the same tradition, with Gospel hymn variations, and also includes three originals: "Always the Same", "The Ephesian Prayer", and the album opens up with "I Wonder", which is a gospel anthem of sorts. The lyrics were adapted from a poem written by my cousin, Jacqueline Porter, dedicated to her father (my uncle), who spent the last twenty years of his life as a quadriplegic in a wheelchair, as a result of an accident with a drunk driver.
"I Wonder" also features the musical talents of electronic musician Paul Ellis, who mixed the track, and also contributed synthesizer, drums, bass and acoustic guitar.
This album was remastered in May of 2015.
